I have a '70's 35 hp Johnson short shaft electric start motor with no plate on it. The number on the freeze plug is 392124 RPH. Can anyone identify model and year

There is some black oil coming from around the prop.
Is this something to be concerned about?

Thanks

Welcome to Iboats, Nmayo!

RPH in the freeze plug number means "Replaced Power Head" so that tells us nothing. Is it possbile to post a picture or two of it? Try to get a picture of the cowl and ignition system since those really help dating them.

Black oil around the prop is normally just unburnt fuel/oil coming from the exhuast. Take a sample and smell it. If it smells of gasoline, that's all it is. If it's got a sulferish smell, it could conceivably be lower unit fluid.

Thanks Paul, I will send you picture by email as I haven't figured out how to do it on this site.
