I want to replace my removalable battery operated stern white light with a perament light. I found a light that can be swung out of the way when not in use. However it is shorter in height by about 6". As I understand it the stern light needs to be a meter above the side lights and out of the way for field of vision. Are the side lights the same as the red/green bow lights? If so than I reckon I would be in compliance. What do ya'll think? (had to add a bit of Bama twang). Thanks

Maybe your regulations are different to ours? A stern light and an 'all round' anchor light are two different things. Which one are you referring too?Aldo

Thanks Commander for the response. I've just been told that I can use the all round anchor light in lieu of the tradiontal stern however I must continue to use the side lights. Now I need to find out what the height is in regards to the side lights.

I shouldn't have responded to your post. In Aus, they are two completely different lights. The anchor light (360 deg) needs to be visible when at rest. When anchored, the side lights are NOT on, therfore the height of the anchor light is irrelevent, as long as it is visible 360 deg. A stern light should only face the stern (135 degrees I think), should not interfer with side lights, regardless of height.But your regs may be different, wait for more replies.Aldo
