Hey guys, First of all ive researches all that i posibly can about this engine and ficht problems.
I have put over 100 hours on this engine since i bought it 1 year ago, i made all the services and maintenance, It worked wonderfully (a little "pulsating" rpm loss at exactly 3900rpm) but fine overall. I use this engine always at 3200rpm because i wakeboard. Today i was on the lake and the engine started sounding a TINY little bit strange, at 3200rpms seemed like it ran on 5 cylinders for a fraction of a second, then back to normal, like that on and on, there was also a little power loss. I turned off the engine, started it again and didnt do the problem for a while.
After Reading everything on ficht, im scared, could this be the start of ficht problems? should i continue using the engine? im thinking of selling it now maybe to avoid future problems? anyone know what can it be? (i had the spark plugs, oil, impeller, changed 2 engine hours ago)
THANKS
Agustin

Welcome to iboats. If your getting any power loss or "pulsating", I would take it and have the EMM scanned, unless you have the software yourself. If your dropping a cylinder, you need to find out why. If it is a lean running injector, you are gonna start burning up that piston. What is you WOT RPM? What kind of oil are you using, I would reccomend using only synthetic in it, full or a blend. Regular TC-W3, will not suffice for that engine. There were a lot of updates for those early Fichts and you should really try to find out which if any have been done to your engine.

THanks a LOT! i will have it checked, which kind of synthetic oil? what is the acronym for EMM?
Im not an outboard expert but i know about engines, the problem is that here where i live (cordoba, Argentina) nobody is very familiarized with Fichts as very few came on import. Why could an injector be running lean? what is wot rpm? assuming is the rpm i run the engine most of times, is 3000-3300rpms.
Thanks

the EMM is your egine management module, some call it an ECU, they had some issues, and the original modules had problems as well as the injectors. I am not familiar enough with fichts to be comfortable adviseing folks. but I do know the early 150's were a tad problematic.
however there were many updates and tech bullitens on them.
the exhaust back pressure transducer needs periodic service and the fuel system was very sensitive to debris.
if the level of service and properly trained techs in Argentina is anything like Venezuela, good luck.

i went today to the lake and tested the engine. Still i couldnt take it to the repair shop.
Something weird happened, first the same "missing" and rpm droping and going back to normal happened, i stoped, i lifted the throttle lever (not the one that makes the prop spin) and the engine went to 3000 rpmS! then i kept using it, tried it again and went up to 6600(aprox)rpms.
What exactly was the problem with 150's?

You lifted the throttle advance lever and the motor revved up. What did you think it should do thats different?

You want it to rev to 6700 in neutral? Why?

With no load it should go to about 3000 and sound like it's missing. That's the limiter.

I wouldn't do that if it were me........

When refering to WOT, they mean full throttle while in forward gear, not in neutral. It is a good determination of how the engine is running. If you reach the recomended rpms @ WOT, then most likley your engine is running properly.
