Have JOHNSON 1983 90 HP. J90MLCT.Replaced seals and bearings in lower unit last yr.I changed oil3 times during season. Did not have water in oiland did not see any metal on drain plug. When i winterized it for winter noticed some small amounts of metal on plug, but still no water in oil.Have heard that small amout of metal OK.IS this true or do i need to think about rebiulding lower unit.

kodadog,

Depends on what a small amount of metal is.If it is only 'wisps' of metal that squeeze between your finger tips,no problem. If you feel 'chunks' it could be a problem.

Sort of like peanut butter.Creamy or chunky.

DHP
