Hi, I am rigging up my '79 Johnson 150 V6 on a 1990 Gambler bass boat. I'd like to ditch the old heavy power trim solenoid and black box for a newer relay setup. I haven't seen the newer OMC ones, but I'm guessing the new relays are solid state, smaller, lighter, etc, right? And as long as the new relays are electrically similar, I can make up a new wiring harness. My boat has a power trim harness as long as a city block, I'd like to toss it out and just make up what is needed. So, can anyone tell me what the newer OMC power trim wiring is like and if I can use newer relays?

I have NO idea WHY you want to ditch the OEM harness.

However, remember this:

Green=down.

Blue=UP

Red=Common +.

Is your switch on the control handle or on your boat dash board?

Actually there are three, one on the shift handle, individual up and down buttons on the floor of the console, and individual up and down buttons on the bow. I'd like to put one on the transom too. I like the double relay setup I've seen in diagrams.
