Can't get my '89 Evinrude 110hp to crank. When I turn the key, I can hear a "zzzzzz" sound along with random clicks and snaps. Sounds like a bad connection. Voltage at soleniod was 2.75 volts. Not sure what to test next. Starter is only two years old, and I just replaced the solenoid hoping that was the problem. Battery has a full charge. Ran great last year.
Welcome Crash!First I have to ask if the battery is good. Only 2.75 volts at the solenoid says you got a low battery....very low. Recheck all the connections from the battery to the solenoid...make sure they are CLEAN and TIGHT. Try a known good battery.

Thanks OBJ and Solittle, The battery tested at 12.75. Maybe I didn't have a good ground. I'll get a friend to turn the key so I can hold the meter properly. I'll check the wires from the Solenoid to the battery tomorrow (pending rain). Thanks for the fast response!
i had similar problem with my motor not to long ago.i replaced solenoid and battery ...still wouldn,t crank.then i spent 1 dollar on new battery clamps and cut 3 inches off my battery cables, installed new clamps and away she went....cranks like a champ now.
went out there this morning, tightened the power to the solenoid (even though it was tight), tried the key, and she cranked. Not sure if that was it or not cause I played with a few other wires, but ran great all day. Eneded up with 1 Keeper bass (32")and 5 more just shy. Best day all year. Thanks for the ideas guys.
