My 1994 88 special has been sitting a while, 5 months perhaps. It was running fine when I last used it. I went home for christmas and I decided to start it on the driveway. I hooked up the flusher and ran the water then cranked it. It started up almost immediately and ran just like it always has. It had a good steady stream of water coming out and idle was just fine, as it has always done. Just as I was about to turn it off, after maybe 5 or 6 minutes, I noticed the water it was peeing out was steaming. Just as a turned it off, the heat alarm went off. I have flushed it this long in the past and it never heated up on me, any ideas ??..Thanks....James

Re: 88 special heat alarm

James.... Run through that identical procedure again to eliminate any possible encounters such as:

The flushette viberated away from the water intake.

You didn't have the water turned on full force.

Someone playing a sick pratical joke by crimping the hose.

If you still encounter a overheating problem, check the compression first to test for a failing head gasket, then drop the lower unit to inspect/replace the water pump assy.
