You mean transom ? <br /><br />if so, check to see how much flex it has when you push down on the motor. If its excessive, replace it. Every boat i have ever owned had light flex, but i was always told that it should. <br /><br />Thats how i have always knows, by eye. But, when in doubt, tear it out. I would anyway just for the fact that the boat is a 78
