went duck hunting in cold weather. went to leave and motor runs and prop will turn with no load, but boat will not move. when i got home i can put the motor in gear and turn the prop by hand and the prop moves but not the shaft does not. It is 1968 18hp evinrude. I took the prop apart and found the rubber bushing was blistered. could this be my problem

Definitely. That is what is refered to as "spinning a prop". A prop shop can rehub that for you.

Did you check the shear pin?

Re: motor and prop turns boat does not move

Depending on the motor, some small outboards have a shear pin that is designed to shear itself off if the prop meets resistance like hitting the bottom thus not allowing anything to get damaged except the shear pin which is easily and cheaply replaced. The other is a prop with the rubber hub, which you noticed was damaged, which can wear out or serve the same purpose as the shear pin.So a "spun hub" is more likley what you have because the prop is turning until it hits any resistance.A sheared pin will usually not even turn the prop.Let us know what the outcome is.Charlie
