Evinrude sportwin pull cord keeps breaking

I have to replace the pull cord once a year because it keeps fraying and eventually breaking. What is causing this problem?

Sounds like something is worn inside and causing the rope to rub somewhere that it shouldn't. Check the whole area of travel for nicks, burrs, etc. that could be cutting up the rope...<br /><br />Could also be the rope. Is this new rope or something you had on the shelf for awhile?<br />- Scott

Beyond what Chinewalker has said,be sure you are using the right diameter and lenght of rope.The wrong diameter will cause chaffing,and too short will just fatigue and break.The pulley that holds the rope should be full (of rope) to the outer edge.<br /><br />DHP
