Propeller/RPM question

I just purchased a 17' cc with an '00 Johnson 115hp Oceanpro. I is fitted with a not so new 13-3/4" x 15 pitch prop and it revs 5600-5700 trimmed up with 2 adults/gear. Is this too much? I took the boat to a shop and he recommends a 13-3/4" x 17 pitch. I'm planning to use the boat for waterskiing too and don't want the engine overworked. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

It sound's like the way you want to use your boat, you would not want to go higher in pitch. 56-5700 is fine, and a couple hundred more would'nt hurt. If your 15" prop is damaged, either repair, or replace it. A damaged prop can give an engine quite a shaking. That can result in loose, and damaged parts.

Ditto. I'd sure not go with any more pitch. I'd play with the set up to gain some actually.

Dont worry about too much rpm, youre no where close to the rev limiter. In fact youre almost bordering on too little rpm at 5600.
