ok, i will give you the short version, i have a 1981 evinrude that hasnt been run for a year- i dont think the fuel was even prepared for storage, but i am trying to sell it and have realized so far that the battery needed changed, so i took care of that, but when i try to start it - it doesnt seem to catch--i have tried to use the choke with little success---someone told me to take the spark plugs out and put a teaspoon of gas in there and that should help...any other suggesions??? i know little about boats- this is my first one!

Re: help

Welcome to Iboats, sheilah!

You've left out some important information - horsepower. Actually, what we prefer is for you to post your model number which should be on a tag on the transom bracket. In the mean time, have a look at this:
Awake the sleeping outboard.

Outboard won't start.

Finally, take it from someone who's been around here way too often. Edit your first post with the "Edit Post" icon on it, and change the title from "help" to "1981 Evinrude xx won't start" or something. Often there's a lot of posts here and unclear titles will get overlooked.
