I own a 1975 Evinrude 135 HP v4 (model 135489-B). This is a mechanical shift motor.
I am looking at a powerhead replacement for that and would like to know if this unit will interchange. I'm looking at a 1971 Evinrude 115 HP v4 (model 125183-G) with Electric shift. The powerhead looks identical to mine.. Has great compression but no lower unit with it.

Thanks in advance

Re: Powerhead interchange question.

Nope, sorry. The models that are the same as yours, as far as a direct bolt up application, are the V4's from 1974 to 76. The 1977 85 & 115 from the 20" models are the same but not the 140's. Any 1973 V4 will bolt up but keep in mind that some of the individual powerhead parts (block, crank, rods and pistons) are exclusive to 1973.

A crossflow powerhead from 1978 and newer, or the 1977 140 & powerheads from the 25" 85 & 115, can be adapted to fit. Youll have to alter the bolt pattern on the bottom of the block (for the base gasket). Some places like Flagship Remanufacturing have the jig to do that.

BTW -- you have a 1974 Evinrude but its the same as the 1975 anyway. And the replacement you mention is a 1971 125.

Re: Powerhead interchange question.

You are correct. Mine is a 1974 but titled as a 1975 which is why I still slip up and say that. Thanks for looking all that up. Looks like I'm going to be rebuilding mine. I only have 60 pounds compression on #4 cylinder. It's .007 out of round on the top so it's definetely in need of machining.
