Hi from a newbie, glad to discover this great source of info on outboards. I have recently purchased a 88 Evinrude which runs out great but when idling thru canals etc. it builds up ALLOT of oil on plugs and smokes outrageous. This only seems to happen when on low rpms.I know it has VRO, could it be pumping too much oil at low rpms only since its not a problem otherwise?
thanks fireman, I will try that. I failed to mention that the boat has not been run in apx 3 years prior to my purchasing it. I did rebuild the carbs and change the fuel in the tank. Wondering now if I should have changed the oil in the VRO tank since Im sure it is at least 3 years old.
