I just bought this 76 charger with a 76 85hp evinrude with tilt trim. my question; i went to change the fluid it was cotaminated it was pinkish white. I have no manuel to go by, what kind of fluid do i use and what position should the motor be in to refill it and how much should i put in it. i moved the engine up and down manualy to get all the old fluid out but not sure how i put it back in. there is a screw on lower right side at bottom a smaller screw at very bottom and and a flush screw in the middle of the upper part of the tilt trim does any of this make any since your help is appriciated.

Ricky

Hmm, not sure about the color. You can use regular old power trim fluid, available at Wal Mart for a few bucks. The fill screw is on the reservoir, and the slotted screw down at bottom in side of pump is the manual release. You don't want to remove that.

There is no "flush" screw on the TNT, at least not described in manual. My book covers 1977 model but shouldn't differ:

To fill it up: First with the pistons down, remove the plug and top off the reservoir.

Open release valve (slotted screw at bottom)-run tilt motor "UP" for 10 seconds (the outboard does not raise)-top off the reservoir.

Close release valve. Run motor "UP" with someone helping to lift the outboard to full tilt. SQUIRT OIL INTO RESERVOIR AS PISTONS MOVE OUT.

Start the reservoir plug about 1 thread. Run outboard down with the tilt motor. Run motor "UP" until motor is all the way up. Top off reservoir. REPEAT until reservoir requires no more oil with outboard fully up. Tighten plug.

Have fun and be careful as opening release with motor up with make it drop like a stone and hurt ya or damage boat.

Ohhh I meant to ask, is it a prestolite or calco unit? The Calco pump and motor is taller, and the wiring harness comes out the top, whereas the prestolite harness comes out of side and faces towards the motor. Plus the reservoir is a little larger diameter than the motor on the presto.
