My Evinrude E-Tec 60 hp is exhausting white smoke from the above water exhaust port (just above the water discharge port); doesn't seem to square up with BRP's "No Smoke" description of E-Tec's. Does anyone have a explaination? Is this normal?

What brand of oil are you using and is it smoke or steam? What boat is it on and how hard do you drive it? I'm wondering if its due to some sort of break-in mode ... if there is such a thing on those. I know a lot of other brands that pump double-oil during break-in, but we got out of Johnnyrudes during the Soros years due to the massive confusion at that time.

The inline motors will steam out of the exhaust at times, usually under hard acceleration. That is what you think is WHITE smoke, when it is actually hot water mixed with exhaust gases.

IF if was oil smoke, you would have had a BLUE cloud.

I am using Evinrude recommended XD100 oil. It is past the break-in mode during which the engine's computer doubles the oil.

I haven't been running it hard or doing fast accelerations. The white exhaust is steady above 2000 rpm. I prefer to plane off and cruise at a moderate speed, less than 25 mph.

How many hours running time? Is the computer set for XD100 oil? What is the engine temperature? An lastly, what is the current oil consumption?

BTW, all of that info is available when the ECM is read by a dealer (or anyone with the cable/sw package and a laptop). You don't have to baby that motor.
