Lets get the model number so we know what we have. There was no 175 in 1972.

Lets definately get the model number and not guess at what we have. There was no 175 in 1974.

There were several versions of a 175. Before you get some bogus info/help lets figure out exactly what you have. A pic will help but the model number will tell us what you have.

That sounds better....a 2.5L block...same as my 200. the oil drippings are somewhat normal in most cases, especially if you have tilted the engine up or put it on a transom saver to trailer it.
I have seen this be variable with the brand of oil used...some leave more residual than others. It also makes a difference as to how much Idling or WOT you run before loading on the trailer.
OK, now I'll stop and let Dhadley take over... :D

Only problem is its not tilted,I personally dont think something is right,Its more than a few drops,Also when I do some trolling or when flushing the motor out smells as if the fuel is not properly burning,As if its loaded up,The carbs have been rebuilt, and after some break in time re adjusted.Might be time to take it in to have a lookin at Jay

I suppose you could have float levels too high...
I troll a fair shake with my 200 and if I do so more than a couple of hours, it's showing oil residue out the exhaust relief holes in the rear, and some will leak out the sides of the mid-section near the front if the gasket for the air box is not installed right or kinked.
Are you running fresh 87 Octane??? No more than 45 days or so in the tank...
