I have water leaking out very slowly around the top spark plug on my 60 evinrude '83 model - the motor runs very well for a few seconds and then starts mis-firing. I replaced the cylinder head gasket but the problem persists. What could it be?
Is there another gasket near that plug?

Yep...there is another gasket. It's called the head cover gasket. The head cover is held on by about 13 or 14 bolts. Remove the bolts and the cover plate will come off. While your in there, may as well replace the t-stat as well if it hasn't been replaced for a while. It'll be at the bottom of the head behind the cover plate.

PN for the gasket is 315538.

Thanks for the reply - could this be the reason for the mis-firing and the oiling up of the plugs? Where would the water go if the head cover gasket was faulty/leaky?
