Am fine tuning my 15hp rude fastwin. When I start motor and begin turning slow speed needle, then high speen needle, for best running, should motor be in neutral or forward? If in forward, won't water in barrel splash out?

Hi Bruce,
Yes, it's recommended that the needles be set with the motor in gear. It's probably best to do the finer tuning on a boat for a couple of reasons. First, you won't splash the water out. Second, your motor won't draw in its own exhaust, which can cause havoc with the settings.
- Scott

Chinewalker, tyvm. You have time for boating after you have answered all out stupid questions?

A follow on question: putting motor in gear to set needles places it under load. Why does it have to be under load when adjusting the needles? I know it works that way, but WHY?
