how do u hook up tachometer to old 18hp evinrude?

1960's era 18hp evinrude fast twin.<br />I have a telefex tach, 0-8k rpm lying around and want to use it to check rpm. I know how to wire everything except for where the sender from the tach goes to on the outboard.<br /><br />Is it possible to connect a tach like this?<br />Tach has the knob to set # of pulses/poles and Teleflex lists evinrudes < 30hp or something as 10-pole alternator so it gets set to 5p. What would the tach hook up to? There is no alternator.<br /><br /><br />thanks

These tachs won't work with your motor. A "tiny tach" will work with no probles.<br /><br />We are working on a way of adapting normal tachs to the older magneto ignitions, but could be a little way off yet.
