Hi, my evinrude 25PS won´t start.
Mot.-No. B010711
Modell E25BPCSA
If I fix the spark plugs somewhere at the iron of the motor-block with 2 fasting-clamps, they function with a flash. No. 1 flashes, then no.2 flashes and so on, and so on.
If I put the spark plugs out of the motor, I have got an easy pull, which means that the cylinders will certainly be ok...
But in the moment I will screw the spark-plugs into the motor, I´ve got a very hard pull (nearly impossible) and nothing happens.
The petrol-filter at the side seems to be alright.
Thx, for any response in advance.
Hopefully,
Martin :)

The motor was working well, before there was that problem I described. (Handstart was light & easy-going, gas was stable with and without accelaration.)

Re: Evinrude 25 PS Starting Problems

Are you saying you could pull start the motor really easy before...something happened!

Now after whatever it was has happened you cant pull start it. But you say its really easy to pull rope with plugs out.

Can you run a compression test on this motor. We will need to know what those numbers are before we start trying to figgure out what the problem mite be.

Just a thought, have you changed plugs recently? Are you sure the pistons are not comeing up aganist plugs and makeing it really hard to go past TDC.

Look at plugs and see if they show any damage of any kind.

If its not that....Then Iam at a loss for ideas.

Good luck!

Re: Evinrude 25 PS Starting Problems

I registered for this forum so that I could find out if you solved your starting problem. I have a 1957 Johnson Javalin 35HP with electric start. I have replaced the battery, the cable, the solenoid, the plugs, and the starter, and it still will not turn over easily. I have even bypassed the cable and solinoid and used juper cables to the starter with no improvement. My turns just fine without the plugs also.

THEHAWK007,

You need to start your own post if you want any help! ;)

Besides that, the motor listed in this post is 23 yrs. newer than yours, a bit of a difference don't you think

Can you pull the motor over with the spark plugs installed without the spark plug wires attached? You might have a sheared flywheel key causing the motor to be out of time. While starting, the spark plug fires as the piston is on its way up and the motor stops dead.

Is the motor in the water, or on muff's when you try to pull it over. If so, pull the plugs, and see if water spray's out the plug holes. You may have a blown head, or exhaust gasket letting water into the cylinder.

Re: Evinrude 25 PS Starting Problems

To MCM, sorry, I am new at this. And this was the only time I have heard of anyone with the same problem.

To TLL, I haven't tried without the wires, I will try that tomorrow.

To R.Johnson, I have tried both in the water and with muffs. No water out the plug holes.

THANKS
