How do I seal the water pump?

I am in the process of reassembling the gear case on my 1979 Johnson 40HP. When I disassembled the unit I noticed that there was not any gaskets between the impeller plate and the gearcase, nor between the water pump housing and the plate. I checked the parts list on the BRP website and it doesn't show any gaskets in these locations. How do I seal the water pump? Should I use OMC adhesive "M", or RTV Silcone gasket material? I want to make sure I seal it up properly with the proper material before I put it back together. Help solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.<br />Thanks, P
