swapping carbs for more power???

I have two 6hp Johnson SeaHorses. 1974 and 1975 models. Is it possible to swap the carb from a larger motor of similar years, such as a 8hp, 9.9hp, or 15hp, to create more power for my motor? I have heard these motors are basically the same, just different carbs. Thanks in advance!

If I'm not mistaken, the 6 and 8Hp were very similar. But I'm not at all confident that the only difference is the carb. It's usually a combination of features. The next higher Hp was the 9.5 which was totally different. You would notice little (if any) difference between a 6 and 8.
