Hi Guys,
I'm looking at a boat with the '97 115SPL and just had a couple questions.
Is this motor oil injected? And what does SPL mean? Special? If so what's so special about it?
I know I could probably ask the owner but he isn't around during the day and I get impatient sometimes ;)
Also, I just sold my boat with a J90 on it and still have a 12 3/8 X 17 SS prop. Can I use it or do you think it will be too small?
Sorry about all the questions but I'm excited about a new boat purchase and i tend to ramble on about.......you know how it is :D

Thanks, Dave

Sorry... The rig is 50 miles away. I remember it was a Johnson 115 SPL. Didn't Johnson make a 115 SPL? Just getting info before I do anything. I guess I'll wait to talk to the owner.

SPLs are the low end motors with left over parts, not bad, just not the latest updates and features. I have a 98 90HP SPL it's been a great motor.

It's not oil injected. Check and see if it has tilt and trim, it should, mine does, but earlier SPLs didn't. They have a low end charging systems too.

I does have T&T. I did not know that about the leftover parts deal. Using up what they had left instead of dumping the stuff in a parts warehouse huh? I kinda like the pre-mix part. I'm used to that. Thanks

Dave

I have a 98 115spl. Mine too is not oil injected which I don't mind at all. I've had an oil injection system fail on me before and trust myself to mix the oil a lot more than I trust a machine.

The SPL's are great motors. They are the same motors as their more expensive cousins, just without some of the bells and whistles such as oil injection, fuel injection etc... Even T&T was removed on the base units; however, iy could be added if desired.

i have a 1989 88 SPl that is bullet proof.
