I have a 1977 85hp evinrude. The motor will crank right up but acts like it might be running on only 2 cly. I testing the fire on the top 2 cly. and it will almost shut the engine off. But the bottom 2 cly. are firing but not as strong as the top 2. When I pull the plugs out there is oil on them so I know gas is getting into the cyl. Can anybody give me any info on what might be wrong. I know a rebuilt power head is 1700 and I won't spend that much on the motor.

As in most cases, a compression check is in order before talking rebuilds.

Biggriff,

You have another thread with the same problem. What was your compression readings? Having 2 threads for the same problems only makes it more confusing for people that want to help.
