POOR IDLE

EVINRUDE 60HP APPROX1991 WILL NOT IDLE OR RUN EVENLY BELOW 2000RPM NOT MUCH VACUM ON THE TOP & MIDDLE CARBS THE CARBS ARE CLEAN <br />NO PROBLEM AFTER 3000RPM LOADS OF POWER<br />SIGN OF FUEL COMMING OUT OFF CARBS AT IDLE <br />ALSO CAN NOT ADJUST CARBS RICH OR LEAN

Welcome super14v!<br /><br />Does it look like fuel is spitting out the carbs at idle? If so, the reed cages behind the carb is split or broken or just bent. Generally you can feel the fuel spitting out when you put your palm up close to the carb intake. Another simple test is to take a strip of tissue and hold it next to the carb opening. If it sucks in all the time, that's good. If the tissue blows out, probably reed damage.<br /><br />Also, did you clean the carbs by soaking and using compressed air to blow out the passages? Float settings correct?<br /><br />And if ya' don't mind, please use the lower case when posting. Makes it kinda' hard to read and sounds like your shouting....thanks!

is it possable the the reed values are sticking <br />as it goes so well at the top end of the rev range.if so how can i free them off !<br /><br />the carbs were soaked and blown out float hight ok<br /><br />super v

Wouldn't think the reeds are sticking. But we do have to find out if your getting blow back from the carbs.

yes there is blow back from the carbs <br />also not much vacum to draw the fuel in at idle but runs well above 2000rpm<br />is it ok to run the engine like this or will it do damage

What your risking is the possibility of a reed breaking and getting into the cylinder. Then you may be looking at an overhaul. I believe I would take a look. The reeds are pretty much visible once the carbs are off.
