I have a 1972 Evinrude triumph 65 hp. The manuel says to use leaded gasoline. You can't buy leaded gasoline any longer but you can buy a leaded additive. I was told at a local marine store that I could use unleaded gas and it wouldn't hurt the engine. Is this true or should I add the lead additive. Thanks anyone.

Re: leaded versus unleaded

In 1972, leaded gas was about all you could get, Batchman.

Lead (Tetraethyl) never was a benefit to 2 stroke engines; in fact it was bad for them.

You are much better off using 87 octane unleaded regular.

Good luck. :)
