Hello gentlemen,

First time poster here and I need some insight and your wisdom. Last night I took my brand spanking new boat out for its maiden voyage, and noticed on hard acceleration that Im getting quite a bit of cavitation. The boat is a 2006 Carolina Skiff 2480 DLX model (23 1/2') Motor is a 2006 Johnson 140 4 stroke. I havent broken the motor in yet, so I havent gone to WOT on acceleration... but have brought it up to 5K rpm as the manual states. I do not know the size of the prop. All I do know is that is is Aluminum and 3 blades. I havent checked it out yet but I guess first thing I need to do is be sure cavitation plate on motor is 3/4" to 1.5" below keel as this is what Carolina skiff recommneds for all their boats on motor height installation. Maybe the dealer gave me some garbage run of the mill prop with the incorrect pitch and size? Any insight as to why this is happeneing and a fix would be greatly appretiated!

Scott

Re: New boat Cavitation problem

First, check the level of the AV plate, then let us know if there is any device, ie, transducer, speed sensor mounted with-in 12-15" of the center-line of the hull.
Are you leaving the trim all the way down?? are you trimming up much at cruise??
And, welcome aboard!
