I have the chance to purchase a 1958 18 HP fastwin for my classic 14Ft boat. The owner tells me it has 105 Psi compression both cylinders. Is this an ok number? Also he says the motor runs good but to go from cruising to idle one has to be near the mixture controls to adjust otherwise the motor runs to fast I never heard of needing to adjust the mixture jets so frequently like he was explaining . My 1956 10hp doesnt need this once its set I can go from idle to full speed and back without touching the mixture jets. What could be wrong with this ? Woulds it be an easy fix? Or should I pass on the motor

Thanks ED

If it won't hold it's mixture control, I would look for an air leak somewhere. How does the motor appear over-all, and what does he want for it?
