Trying to change prop on 2000 40 hp Johnson 2 stroke,16 ft carolina skiff Dlx. Tach reads good at idle but drops to zero when throttled up? What should I look for 1st?
Hello.
If your motor is running OK, then make a control on your tach. are the +12V and - connected OK. can you read +12V or more at your tach ?
Control the wirers from the battery to tach. And at last, control the cabel (I think it is grey) from tach to motor (some times it is connected to the remote control)
Hello Tampaskiffer, not trying to be aknow-it-all,but Im reading a Teleflex manuel. It says what duke3 just said,,plus,it says when you throttle up, if it goes back to zero,it may indicate the voltage rectifier is not operating properly(even though the rectifier may be partially charging the battery).Hope this helps a little.
