We have recently inherited what we believe is a 1929 Johnson Seahorse. We believe that the model number is J-96706. This is the only number visible. Can anyone tell us anything about this motor? It runs but is tempermental ... likes to takes breaks every now and then while you are on the water.

Thanks.

Re: inherited motor

S/N 96706 makes it a 1929 model (96409-128000 were 1929). If that's a single cylinder model, than it's a J25. Does that seem to match your engine? If not, can you describe it a bit? # of cylinders, size, approximate weight would all be helpful.

Re: inherited motor

Lucky guy. I'd give my right arm for a motor that old to restore. I love those things. Good luck with it.
