We have a 1970-something Larson with a Johnson 70hp outboard that is just as old. There are two small holes down, below the engine. I believe these to be exhaust ports of some kind. But the other day there was water spitting out of them as well as, what looked like, exhaust gases. Can anyone tell me what these holes really are and if there is water coming out of them, where I should look? The engine seems to run fine but this just seems a little wierd.

Those holes are exhuast relief holes... during idle some water can come out of them.... spray out with exhaust... it is normal

Great, thanks a lot for the help!

As for the engine, it's still in great shape and it's been dead reliable.
