My 1979 25horse evinrude pops out of gear in fwd. In taking it apart I found that the clutch dog is worn. My question is, can I reverse the clutch dog so that it won't pop out of fwd but reverse instead? I don't go in reverse that often or that fast. If I can it would save me some money in parts.

I have done that many times with good results. and it never popped out in reverse because it isn't under the same preasure it is when in forward
