carb leaking gas

I have a 1975 johnson 40hp. I ran it out of gas and now when I hook up the gas line to the engine gas leaks out of the carb. I took it to a shop and the carb was cleaned and a new needle and seat installed. I took it back to the lake and it ran good for 1hr, then it started again. The repair shop thinks I should now replace the carb. Any suggestions?

Re: carb leaking gas

By "it started again", I assume you're saying that the carburetor is flooding again? And I bet that repair shop has just the carburetor you need?

Either the float is not adjusted properly, a new float needle valve assembly was not installed, or possibly the fuel line is deteriorating which is allowing flakes of rubber etc become jammed in the float needle valve.
