never had any problems until bought a new gas tank. Maybe a coincidence. today it quit and i thought the new tank was empty, it was close. Anyhow the other tank was full and the motor would start and idle but not rev up. My guess is fuel clogged. There is fuel at least to the screen filter, i checked. the bulb stays hard, it just seems like the gas isn't getting through. Anyone have a quick fix? Will draining the carb bowl solve the problem? Or do I need to clean the carb out real good, and how do i do that?

Welcome bodette!

Just for grins.....drain the new tank and check the suction tube. Should have a fine wire mesh on the end. This is to keep "junk" from getting to the pump....or maybe thru the pump. And check your quick connect at the engine is all the way on.

The only way to check a carb is to pull it off and open it up. Don't short yourself on good maint. Good maintenance keeps these engines running. If the engine is used a lot, pull the carb off, take it apart and clean it throughly...soak it, blow out the ports with compressed air.

Get a OEM manual. The 2000 manuals for your engine are still available from your John/Rude dealer. It'll show you how to take the carb off and clean it out. Plus....a lot of other things to keep the machine working great for a long time to come. OEM carb kit is around $25.
