1971 50 HP Evinrude Selectric Shift.

Model # 50173

Won't go to reverse. Neutral and forward are fine. Any suggestions?

Is the Selectric Shift problematic by nature?

w2much, I couldn't say one way or another if they were prone to problems. This thread should apply to your motor, there's a good post by Joe Reeves in there regarding troubleshooting your problem.

Joe Reeves and MCM

Great refferral. Tested as suggested, easy as 1 2 3 . Just needed a bit of WD 40 on the reverse button on the control box. Never would have figured it out with out the help. Well it saved a heck of a lot of time anyway.
