water in 90hp johnson v4 1982

is there an easy way to tell if the head gaskets are gone or if theres a crack in the water jackets? motor starts dry but is no go in the water or with muffs on.is it worth rebuilding? :confused:

Welcome to the forum!<br /><br />You most likley have a head gasket blown. Pull head and have a look see.<br /><br />Mabey want to do a compression test to find out which bank.<br /><br />But if it were me I would put both in new at the same time.<br />Cracked block is very seldom, Blown head gasket is quite often.<br /><br />Good luck!
