Re: no spark

Welcome to iboats Frank!

Something simple is being missed Frank. Points set to .020 on high cam? Air gap at coils set? When you set in the new coils, did you set the bottom edge of the coil with top edge of the chamfered edge of the post's the coils set on? Plug wires in the coils set right....did you check the pins in the new coils were straight before pushing in the plug wires?

How do you know your not getting spark?

Re: no spark

I suspect that your problem lies in the wires. You may not have seated them fully on the pins in the coils when you inserted them, or you may have bent the pins.

It's easy to do. Also, check to make sure that they are the proper wires, with a real wire inside, and not the typical automotive spark plug wires.

I suspect you're almost there with this. Just check that again, along with the proper connections on the coils and condensers.

Re: no spark

I mention this because I made this mistake myself. Go to http://outboard-boat-motor-repair.com and look at either my 3 or 5.5 HP tune up projects under "ignition". There you will see some color photos of the ignition. Pay particular attention to where the coil wires go. Someone told me you could not wire these up wrong, but I managed to do it. The ignition on these little motore are basically the same as what you have. I've had a lot of people use those pictures for guidance.
