I have a 1990 60hp johnson vro. I have been having problems with the idle. It seems to idle for a couple of seconds and then it stalls out completely. I have done a compression test and my top cyl. is at75psi the middle cyl. is 45psi.and the bottom cyl. is at 60psi is this normal and can this be causing me idle problems? thank you

If you did the comp check properly, you have major problems. Redo the comp check making sure you let each cylinder turn over until the gauge stops rising. I would imagine that motor should have at least 90 lbs on each cylinder but more important no more than 10lbs difference in the readings.

Try a decarb, Brian. Then redo the compression check.

You should get the readings Bill suggests. If not, it's time for an overhaul.

Good luck. :)

Hello Brian.

Yesterday, I have made a comp.test on my Evinrude 60Hp VRO.
After the motor have been running for about 5 min. I took all plugs out, installed the comp.meter and gave it full thottle. Let the starter run for about 5 sek. I did then read 112, 115 and 116 PSI. ( New is apx. 120 PSI )
Regards from Denmark.
