86 johnson 25 hp--bought carb kit but when I went to remove carb I could't get to the one nut behind the starter. Started pulling bolts-after a half hour -lost patience and reassembled everything. How much crap do I have to remove and unhook to get the freaking starter off! Also-what carb soaking chemical do you reccomend should I decide to try it again?

Only three bolts holding the starter bracket on Martin......the starter comes off with it. The one at the bottom may be a little tough to get to but a 1/4" drive makes it a little easier.

Go down to the local NAPA store or your favorite auto parts place and get some carb cleaner. I get the stuff in a gallon can. Good for cleaning lottsa' stuff.

You can spin the nut off with a screwdriver and a light tap with a hammer. After you wiggle carb off, grind some of the carb body off, the part that rubs the starter, about 1/8 inch.
