I have a 1982 70 hp Johnson Model# J70TLCNB, it runs great most of the time, once in a while the motor
bogs and will stall when hitting the throttle hard
to pull up a tube. If I baby the throttle it will
catch then run fine. This seems to happen after taking a rest then next hard throttle will bog.
IS this a carb problem?

Re: 1982 70 hp johnson bogs on acceleration

I have an 1983 70 Evinrude (same motor back then?)
and we had metal gas tanks (back then). Every other year, the jets would be clogged and require service. The symptom was sub-par throttle under heavy load, but WOT with 1 or 2 people in the boat.

The assumption was that trash in the tanks (rust) was stopping the jets.

I bought plastic tanks at some point and the problem went away. The other option is to install a fuel filter in your external gas line. Of course this depends on whether I have correctly diagnosed your problem.

Good Luck
