God I love my boat! But I hate working on the engine all the time. Now it won't start. If I had to venture a guess, it sure seems like it is a timing issue. I have good spark (and a brand new power pack). It was just running fine but I did hear a pinging noise as the motor got going and was under less load. Now it will only backfire a bit when I try and start it. I went through the entire fuel system including the carborator and it all looks clean and in good order. Is there some type of timing setting on this darn engine that I don't see? Any help would be much appreciated.

dean

Howdy, Dean.

Sounds like your stator has shifted or, more likely, the flywheel key is sheared.

You need a Service Manual.

Then go to Engine FAQs and troubleshoot.

Good luck. :)
