I rebuilt the carb last summer, the motor's been running great ever since. Last time out, I started the motor, (started first pull
, unlike the '50's Mercury that was there next to me
). It was running good, for a couple minutes, then it just died. I took the back end of the hood off, checked the plugs, very wet. Wouldn't start again. I've come to realize with this motor, if it doesn't start by the 2nd or 3rd time, there is a problem. Took the rest of the hood off, fuel is FLOWING from the carb.
.

SO, to wrap up this already long story, I took the carb apart, the little 1/2 inch diameter ring gasket that goes in the middle between the 2 halves of the carb body was broken and cracked.
I had another, (Sierra), and it's running great again.

What caused this failure? The part that failed was a Johnson part. Did I get NOS parts that weren't meant for new gas?

So, of course, I had to tow the boat home without even getting off the beach, unlike the hot rod Merc that enjoyed a fun day of pushing a vintage hydro with teenagers.
