Welcome Terry!!

Lets start with where you are now. Tell us about your boat and the performance you are now getting. What is the max rpms at WOT? Where is the cavitation plate relative to the bottom of the hull? What pitch prop are you using and is it al or SS?

Most of the "experts" here will advise against swapping parts to get performance improvements to your engine. They will recommend that you get the max from what you have and often that involves being in good tune, set-up properly and having the right prop. Even when you can swap parts the results are less than what is expected or hoped for.

Ok, Ill try.
The boat is a 88 hydrostream, I think it has a semi tunnel hull. I will have to get back with you on the cavitation plate( I hate to show my ignorance but, what is a cavitation plate?) I have a 14.5 x 24 pitch SS prop. I also installed a 12 in slidemaster jackplate, with 2 additional inches of spacer, for a total of 14 in. of setback. That helped it.
As far as max rpms at WOT. My tach registeres 3500rpms at 52 mph. I am not sure if the tach or speedometer are correct, I had a boat mechanic tell me the engine was running more rpms than it registered and on another occasion I had someone bring their gps which said we were going 7mph slower than what was actually registering on the spedo. I dont know how to test the tach without just replacing it ,same with the spedo.
Im new to the boating scene,as you have probably already figured out, lol. Thanks for the help... Terry
