Evinrude 9.9 stalls when going down from WOT

I have an Evinrude 9.9 1982 that idles fine and works fine until it dies when I release the throtle from WOT even to 1/2. If I take it to 1/2 and release it it works fine. After stalling it takes around 4 pulls to start again (usually 2). I cleaned the carb and rebuild the fuel pump. I have two different tanks/line and primer and it happends with both. Any Ideas?<br />Thank you very much.

Sounds like it is flooding itself. When you drop quickly from WOT it is not burning the fuel quick enough. Might be time to rebuild the carb. Sounds like the float might be sticking a little bit. You said you cleaned the carb but I would put a kit in it while you were in there. Make sure that the float is set level with the carb body when turned upside down.
