running hot alarm john.115 '91 w/vro

i get the continuous alarm (overheat?), only when wot.low hrs on motor,just rebuilt carbs,new champ plugs,(thanks to everyone on other issues that got me this far!!!),BUT,need to install a new water pump (it's due).could this be the final step? checked all wires,grounds,etc. not sure if under wot the old pump somehow not working as good? water coming out fine though,and not hot.can run 3/4 throt.w/no alarm. lost.thanks for any input!!!

Sounds like your water pump is right on the edge of not being good enough. The faster you run the motor the more heat it creats and the more water circulating you need. I'd go with a complete kit instead of just an impellor.

I have often wondered why OMC sold impellor's outside of a kit form, or installed overboard water indicator's, "Pee Streams" that has smoked a lot of engines

Might check or replace the thermostats while you are at it.
