My wife hit something on the river and the prop is somewhat dented, but I have lost most of the power in the engine. Still runs though. Any ideas as to what is wrong? It was our first time out on the boat and we're new to this. It's an Evinrude 18hp o/b (1969?) 2 Stroke

according to my book, If your motor is a 1969, the model # should be either 18902 or 18903

Welcome to the boards! You're new to boating and the boat, you ran into trouble first time out, so you don't yet have a good "feel" for how that motor should run. Obviously you need to fix the prop. Prop repair places can hammer it back into good shape on a special anvil they have. No big deal. When you get back on the water go easy at first, checking to make sure the motor spits warm water out of the sputter-hole etc. That motor will run forever with proper care. On the lower left of this page is a link to buy a Seloc repair manual - excellent book for new outboard owners! If you don't plan on tearing the motor apart then the Seloc manual is all you'll ever need for basic use & maintenance. Most libraries have them too if you don't want to buy one right away.

Mike, you stated "I have lost most of the power in the engine". Could you be a bit more specific. At WOT, does it sound like it's running at correct RPM's? Is it missing? Could it be running on just 1 cylinder? Does the engine just rev without the boat going anywhere? Curious minds need to know these things. You may have a spun prop hub. Prop shop to fix.
