i have a evinrude believe is a 9.9 not sure what year model # is 9222m & seial # is J 015612 any help appreciated thanks! Also what does each number and letter of model # mean

That's a 1972 9.5 hp Evinrude. Quite a few folks here have that engine or one almost identical. If you have questions, ask away, and someone will help you.<br /><br />Be sure to include the year and HP of your outboard in the title of any messages.

Not really. The 9 is the horsepower number...9.5 in this case. The 2 is for 1972. Other than that I have no idea. <br /><br />There are model number lists for Johnson and Evinrude outboards at marineengine.com. That's where I found the info.
