50 hp evinrude model info

I have looked through year and model numders for my 50 hp evinrude. My model number on the plate reads 50173S. When I search I find a model number for 1971 50 hp reading 50173 but no S does the S signify any differece.

No, wavester. The "S" is a MFG run number.<br /><br />Your engine is a 1971.<br /><br />Good luck, and welcome to iboats. :)
