Oil/Fuel Ratio

I have and old 1978 Johnson 2 Cyl outboard. I'm fairly mechanically inclined (pardon the split infinitive), and it took me a while--and lots of online help from you guys--to understand how to set the motor's linkage, carbs, propeller, etc. for best performance and motor life.

I've always ran this motor with oil/fuel ration at 40:1; however, after reading a huge amount of posts that state the best ratio at 50:1, aside from the obvious change in lubricating the parts more, would moving the ration down to 50:1 help my motor out at all. After three years or so at 40:1, should I even bother to lower the oil amount in the fuel?

Gracias.

Re: Oil/Fuel Ratio

You will save a few shekels by using the designated 50:1 mix, VB.

The 40:1 is likely to have done no harm, except maybe increase carbon buildup.

Good luck. :)
